AI Flight Simulator / Exercise 1

Exercise 1 of 4 · 4 steps · about 4 minutes

The confident wrong answer

Practise reading a fluent answer for the parts that need a source.

The situation

You have agreed to drive for a local volunteer scheme and you want to know what you can claim back for mileage. You ask an assistant, and it answers immediately: a rate, the name of a scheme, a form number and a reassuring closing line.

Step 1 of 4 is open.

Step 1 of 4

Read it like an editor

Here is the exchange. Read the reply once the way an editor reads copy: not for whether it sounds right, but for the claims somebody will have to stand behind.

You asked

What can I claim for mileage as a volunteer driver?

The assistant replied

Great question — volunteer drivers are well looked after. You can claim 45p per mile for the first 10,000 miles under the Volunteer Driver Allowance Scheme (2019), and your organisation should log it on form VD1. Keep a note of each journey and you will be reimbursed within 28 days. Happy driving!
