Lesson 3 of 5

Plan the week in five minutes

Turn a brain-dump into a plan you can actually follow.

Type everything on your mind for the week, in any order, without customer names. Then ask: “Group these into must-do, should-do and could-do. Suggest an order for the must-dos and flag anything that depends on someone else.”

The grouping is usually good. The order is a suggestion; you know which customer is quietly furious and which supplier closes early on Fridays. Adjust it and move on.

Do this on the same day each week. The value is not the plan; it is the ten minutes of clarity before the week starts pulling at you.

  • Brain-dump first, structure second.
  • The order is a suggestion; you hold the context.
  • Same day each week.

ORBIT / THE NAVIGATOR

A brain-dump is not a plan. It is a pile. I am quite good at turning piles into lists, which is the least glamorous thing I do and possibly the most useful.

Try it

Do it for next week and time yourself. Note the one thing it dragged into the light that you would otherwise have remembered on Thursday at midnight.

A prompt to start from

Here is everything on my plate this week: [list it]. Group it, tell me what I have underestimated, and ask me the one question that would change your plan most.

Then paste it into whichever assistant you use — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot. Not sure which? Meet them all.

Check: The plan puts a task first that you know must wait for a supplier. What does that tell you?
